How the Restaurant Program works
Restaurants put our sign on their counter, their guests enter to win a gift card, and we follow up with those homeowners for free estimates. It costs the restaurant nothing.
How you get credit
Every restaurant records who signed it up. Every lead, appointment, sale and install from that restaurant counts for that person on the Team contest board, whatever their job at JS. Who owns the lead in GOAT (the advisor who runs the appointment) is a separate setting.
Signing up a restaurant, step by step
- Visit and get to the owner or a manager who can approve it (scripts below).
- Have them scan your signup QR code or text them your link. They enter the restaurant name, designated person, phone, email, address and logo. Check that the "Who from JS Construction told you about the program?" box shows your name.
- Can't do it on the spot? Use + Add restaurant on the Restaurants tab. It's credited to you and waits for approval.
- A manager approves it in Restaurant HQ. The restaurant gets an email with its own Restaurant HQ login.
- Print the restaurant's counter sign, put it in one of the acrylic stands from the office, and drop it off (see "Making the counter sign" below). Ask staff to say "scan to win a free gift card" at checkout.
Before you walk in what to bring, when to go
- Bring: a sample sign in one of the acrylic stands from the office, your business card, and your phone with your signup QR code ready. Owners say yes faster when they can hold the real thing.
- Best time: Tuesday–Thursday, 2:00–4:30 pm, between lunch and dinner. Avoid the rushes and Friday/Saturday nights.
- Be a customer first: buy a coffee or a meal. Staff are friendlier to a paying guest.
- Best targets: locally owned diners, cafés, BBQ and pizza places. Chains usually need a franchise owner or corporate to approve.
- Do your homework: look up the owner's or manager's name on Google or Facebook so you can ask for them by name.
Getting to the decision maker host, cashier, server
Your only goal with the host or cashier is to reach the owner or manager. Don't pitch the whole program to them, and don't leave without a name and a best time to come back.
Write down the name, the best time, and a phone number or email. Leave the sample sign and your card.
- They can approve it: go straight to the pitch.
- They can't: give a short pitch so they can champion it, then ask, "What's the best way to reach the owner? Could we call them together right now?"
- Franchise or chain: "Who handles local marketing for this location?"
The pitch about 60 seconds
Hand them the sample sign while you talk. Lead with what's in it for them: customers through the door and money in the register.
We're partnering with local restaurants on something that brings you customers and pays you.
Here's how it works. We put this sign on your counter. Your guests scan it to enter a drawing for a $25 gift card to your restaurant. Every 25 entries, we draw a winner, and we buy that gift card from you. That's money in the register and a guest coming back to spend it.
The people who enter are homeowners, and we'll reach out to offer them a free estimate. If any of them gets a roof or windows from us, we pay you $200 once their job is installed and paid in full.
It costs you nothing, there's no contract, and you can stop anytime. You also get your own login to see every entry and what you've earned, and we run contests between our partner restaurants.
All I need is two minutes to sign you up and your logo for the sign. Want to get it set up?"
Then stop talking and let them answer.
Objections agree, answer in a sentence, go back to the close
| They say | You say |
|---|---|
| "What does it cost me?" | "Nothing. We print the sign, run the drawing, buy the gift cards from you, and pay you the $200." |
| "What's the catch?" | "No catch. Your customers are our neighbors. Giving away gift cards and paying you for customers we win costs us less than advertising." |
| "I don't want my customers hounded." | "Totally fair. We only contact people who choose to enter, and the form tells them that up front. Nobody has to buy anything or book anything to win. If a guest ever complains, call me and I'll fix it." |
| "I don't have counter space." | "There's a small 5×7 version that fits next to the register or on a table. By the door works too." |
| "I need to ask the owner or my partner." | "Of course. Who should I talk to? Could we call them together right now? If not, I'll leave this and follow up on [day]." |
| "Corporate won't allow it." | "Understood. Who handles local marketing for this location? A lot of franchises allow local promotions, and I'm happy to send them the details." |
| "We already have a giveaway." | "This one's paid for by us and pays you on top of that, so it can sit right next to yours." |
| "How do I know I'll get paid?" | "You get your own login to Restaurant HQ. It shows every entry, where each one stands, and when a job is paid in full, so you'll see the $200 coming before we pay it." |
| "Let me think about it." | "Sure. What would you want to know to feel good about it?" Answer it, then: "It only takes two minutes, and you can stop anytime. Want to just get it set up?" If not: "I'll text you the signup link and check back [day]." |
Closing: sign them up on the spot
- Have them scan your signup QR code, or text them your link (copy button at the top of this page).
- They fill in the restaurant name, designated person, phone, email (their login) and address.
- Check that "Who from JS Construction told you about the program?" shows your name.
- Logo: they upload it from their phone. No logo handy? They can skip it, and you can pull it from their website or Facebook later.
- Ask where the sign should go: "What's the best spot, right by the register?"
- Ask the staff to help: "If your team says 'scan to win a free gift card' when people pay, you'll hit 25 entries a lot faster."
Making the counter sign & dropping it off print it, put it in a stand, set it up
Restaurant HQ makes each restaurant's sign for you. It has their name, the logo they uploaded, their own QR code, and our logo at the bottom. There's nothing to design.
- Wait for approval. The sign only appears once a manager has approved the restaurant, because its QR code doesn't take entries before that.
- Check the logo. Open the restaurant on the Restaurants tab. If the logo is missing or blurry, ask the owner for a better one or save it from their website or Facebook page. Then ask a manager to upload it on the restaurant's page. With no logo, the sign shows the restaurant's first initial.
- Open the sign. On the restaurant's page, click Open counter sign and pick Letter 8.5×11. That's the size our stands hold. Use the 5×7 card only for a small tabletop holder.
- Print it in color with Print / Save as PDF. Set the paper to Letter, turn on "Background graphics," and use 100% scale or "Fit to page." Card stock or glossy paper looks best. A shop can print from the saved PDF too.
- Test the QR code with your phone before you leave. It should open that restaurant's "Win a $25 gift card" form.
- Grab a stand at the office. We keep clear acrylic 8.5×11 sign stands there. Slide the sign in, standing up (portrait).
- Set it up at the restaurant. Put it by the register, facing guests as they pay. Ask the manager to have staff say "scan to win a free gift card" at checkout.
If a sign gets damaged or the restaurant wants a second one, for a table or by the door, print another the same way. Every copy uses the same QR code.
Follow-up text same day · call day 3 · visit day 7 · then monthly
Go at the best time the staff gave you, bring the sign again, and ask for the owner by name.

For managers and admins approvals, signs, drawings, payouts
- Approve new restaurants on the Signups tab. "Approve & send login" opens their drawing and emails the designated person their Restaurant HQ login. Check that "Signed up by" is right while you're there.
- Make the sign: open the restaurant → "Open counter sign" → Letter 8.5×11 → Print / Save as PDF in color. Add or replace the logo first if it's missing. Put it in an acrylic stand from the office for delivery (full steps in "Making the counter sign").
- Run drawings on the Drawings tab when a restaurant reaches 25 entries. Call the winner, buy the $25 gift card from the restaurant, then click "Mark gift card delivered."
- Pay the $200 (admins) on the Payouts tab once the job shows "Paid in full." Record the check number in the note.
- Remove bad entries (admins) on the Entries tab: fakes, duplicates, or people who aren't homeowners. Removed entries stop counting toward drawings.
- Add people to the team (admins) on the Team tab. Anyone at JS can be added, with any email.
